America 'Perspective' 1984 Capitol (Re-Iss 1999 Magic Records)

INFO: This item is being sold through me by another seller. Extremely rare on CD, this is positively a Westcoasters wet dream come true and an AOR-lite classic too boot. Originally released in 1984 via Capitol Records this album displayed a decidedly different style from previous America offerings. Essentially a Folk-Rock band (but none-the-less loved by a large majority of the 70’s Soft Rock crowd) this was America’s twelfth album and saw the 1980’s style of doing things very much in the driving seat. Featuring several producers, including Richie Zito, Matthew McCauley, and Richard James Burgess ‘Perspective’ bristles with 11 awesome cuts that ooze pure class. Sadly however, neither the album or it's two singles releases were a huge success with the masses… ‘Special Girl’, the album's first single, and an Eddie Schwartz composition (a track that would later be covered by Eddie himself and Meat Loaf) sadly failed to chart – which is surely a crime in itself? The next single, ‘Can't Fall Asleep To A Lullaby’, which was co-written by Dewey Bunnell (one half of America), Journey's Steve Perry (who also provides background vox), Robert Haimer, and Bill Mumy, the latter of “Lost In Space” fame also did poorly. Although neither track was played on popular radio, both did achieve minor success on the Adult Contemporary charts – ‘Special Girl’ reaching #16 and ‘Can't Fall Asleep To A Lullaby’ #26. The album itself was unable to score more than #185 during a brief three-week stint on the charts in October 1984. America would not cut another studio album for a decade…

My 2 Cents worth…
Some people (the masses) have no taste – well, we know that, if they did Westcoast/AOR music would always be climbing the charts. This is a fantastic album from beginning to end – should’a been massive… …highly recommended. (GF).
